Here’s hoping the next generation can pick up where we left off, clear up some of our mess and build a better world.
The melody is based on an old Irish folk tune with the intriguing title, The Pearl of the Yellow Road. I found it while trying out random tunes from Petrie’s Complete Irish Music.
I’ve changed it quite a bit but it remains true to the original, which still shines through.
Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to track down the original lyrics. As with many Irish songs, it was probably about some local beauty but where was the yellow road? If anyone can shed any light I would be delighted to hear from them.
